Shedding Light! Is there a Correlation between Alcoholism, Addicts and Sociopathy?

Sociopaths are never "sober”. When they stay off drugs and alcohol for brief periods of a year or two, they move their sociopathic deviant cravings to other things--porn, sex, gambling, lying, banking and the like.

Do sociopaths drink and take drugs to erase the reality of the shirking of responsibility, and the lack of conscience that they inflict on the innocent around them? Their victims/partners are being trained to excuse their anti social behavior and call it a disease, and to help their abusers escape the punishment- NOT TREATMENT- that they deserve.

  • Dr. Leedom analyzed the criteria for antisocial personality disorder stated in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV). She came to the conclusion that sociopaths have faulty development in three areas: ability to love, impulse control and moral reasoning. "By definition, a sociopath is someone with impairment in all three of these abilities," Dr. Leedom says. "Sociopaths are unable to love, have poor impulse control and exhibit immoral behavior." Dr. Leedom calls these three areas the Inner Triangle.Interestingly, she found that researchers in Great Britain, David Cooke and his colleagues, have developed a three-factor model of psychopathy. Dr. Leedom says the three factors in their model correspond to the three sides of the Inner Triangle.Dr. Leedom believes the Inner Triangle also has implications for people with addiction, alcoholism and ADHD. There are genetic links between these disorders and sociopathy, she says.” (Lovefraud)

  • It is proposed that one of the important dimensions of drug addiction is the presence of increased need states which give rise to impulsivity,, egocentricity and feelings of hypophoria. To attempt to obtain additional information bearing on this hypothiesis , a Maturation Scale was designed which has items related to feelings of impulsivity, egocentricity, needs hypophoria and sociopathy. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and Maturation Scale were administered to 54 control subjects who were students or faculty members at a religious college and seminary, 53 alcoholics, and 24 prisoner drug abusers. In addition, blood levels of follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and testosterone were determined. It was found that scores on the Maturation Scale and the Impulsivity, Egocentricity, Need and Sociopathy Subscales of MS were significantly elevated in alcoholic and prisoner subjects. The Maturation Scale, which measures immaturity and tests existing feeling states, appears to be a discriminative and useful tool for assessing the status of the psychopathy of drug abusers.” (William R. Martin, National Institute on Drug Abuse)

  • I know in alcoholics anonymous, myself included, could easily be diagnosed as being a sociopath BUT the thing about this is, when they/we/I are working a program all those traits magically disappear, when in fact they've exchanged their addiction to alcohol to something else such as sex and porn, something which is more easily hidden. 1. Brilliant post! I have had a nightmare experience with my ex husband who is almost all of the above: compulsive gambler,alcohol-abuse, porn addiction on top of compulsive lying, exploiting everybody and a real con man. No empathy whatsoever and a twisted mind. I am so happy I divorced him. Even though I am bankrupt from the experience, I am still alive and I will get my life back. I have the most fantastic friends who has supported me all the time. He wont change. He will end up all alone. There's justice after all...
